What Am I Going to Listen To Now?? Nature??

Thursday, November 09, 2006

Le sigh.

Apparently, there is a bug in the newest version of Itunes (7), which essensially corrupts Shuffles, with no way to restore them (read more here). As you can probably guess, I only found this out AFTER I updated, and got the dreaded '1418' error. And now my little white stick is charging it's worthless batteries on the back of my work laptop. Bugger.

I listen to my shuffle all. the. time. I do a lot of walking, and my trusty Shuffle is always in my pocket, and almost always filled with Dawn and Drew shows. I just don't know what to do with myself now.

This does mean, though, that I can easily rationalize buying myself a new Ipod Nano, or requesting it for Christmas. It just seems that Christmas is too far away. I want one now! now! now!

So, in the meantime, if anyone wants to contribute to my Nano Fund, go right ahead.

when did you get your shuffle? My iPod did that last year and they took it in for repair and sent me a new one - I think you have a year, and you don't necessarily need your receipt, they can tell when you bought it by the serial number. Check it out - at least as your Nano fund grows you could maybe have your shuffle up and running!

Good news!

The shuffle was actually 2 years old, so the warranty was no longer valid.. but!

I found a discussion group on the topic this morning, and Apple has just recently put out a patch that restores the Shuffle... So it works now!

I'm still gonna get a Nano, though. I don't like the fact that I can only have podcasts OR music on the shuffle, not both.

I was going to say, they sort of have to fix the error they created, don't they? They're apple, the good guys! Right? right.

Well, apparently it doesn't fix everyone's, and there has been a LOT of people bitching about the problem. So, they are probably good guys, most of the time. Though perhaps they just want people to go "screw it, I'll just by an Ipod".
